ORC Week 6: The Finale

Flooring· Funky· Mudroom

8 May

Hooray!!! We made it to The One Room Challenge Finale!! We have been working hard on the Musty Mudroom Makeover the past 6 weeks and I am excited to show you the end results!

When I entered the challenge, I didn’t have any idea what I was going to do on this wall. All I knew was that the cobweb covered FAMILY sign had to go. Originally, there was a functioning white board below the family sign, but one of my kids used it for a project and it was never returned. This is the homemade version she created to take its place. Hmmmm…I wonder why we never used it?

Here are some more before photos

After clearing out the mudroom, we added a second shelf on top of the built-in for more storage space. Then I painted the built-in and wainscoting Artichoke Green. This was a tough decision for me. I also considered painting everything a dark moody black…but I love the green! See my post for ORC Week 2 if you want to know more about my color choices for the room.

Stenciling the tile floor was next on the agenda. Overall, the project took about a week. Don’t let the time frame discourage you from trying this DIY. Most of the time I was just waiting for the next coat to dry before moving on to the next step. It is a simple project and the results are fabulous!! Tutorial and Source Info here.

The floors are pretty great! However, my favorite project in the room was the Pressed Botanical Gallery Wall(Tutorial coming soon). I really wanted to incorporate some plants in my decor. Originally, I thought about building some kind of planters that hung on the wall. But the thought of watering all of those plants…hmmm! So I grabbed some greenery from my yard and did a few trial pressings with my iron to see if it would work. Luckily it did…and now that wall is my favorite!

Thanks for all of the love and encouragement throughout the 6 weeks. It has been fun to meet new friends and I am so inspired by my fellow ORCers. Can’t wait until the next One Room Challenge!!!

My husband asked me if I wanted to move a bed into the room because I spend so much time in there staring at the walls!

You really did a fantastic job with this room! It not only looks great but you made it MORE functional which is huge in my opinion. I didn’t think I could like anything more than the stencil or avocado green, but the gallery wall is beautiful. It is not easy to place that many varying sizes of frames and have them look good. Home run for sure.
