Only one more week until the end of the One Room Challenge and there is still a lot to do. The biggest unfinished project is the kitchen island. Originally, I was going to strip and stain the island a different color. However, none of the stain colors I tried seemed to look good in the space. I worked on it for a couple of days without success. So finally I decided that I would paint the island…and I’m so glad I did. It’s still not completely finished, so you will have to wait until the reveal to see the color I chose.

In the meantime, let me show you some of the other projects that I didn’t share in my previous posts.

Installing the shiplap backsplash was fairly simple and made a huge difference in this space. We order this shiplap from Home Depot and it was delivered directly to our home. I used a finish gun and some liquid nails to attach it to the wall. The lip in the shiplap hid all of the nail holes and made paint prep a lot easier.

Another detail that I love is the open shelving. I really wanted to have a space to showcase some of my pottery, plants, and art. Plus, it adds some color to the all white back drop.

Well I am off to paint the kitchen island and get this project done before next week. Can’t wait to share all of the pictures and details in the final post. If you want to see how far we’ve come here are the links to the previous posts: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, Week 4/5, & Week 6.
